2 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes

When that clock runs down to 0:0:0 I'll be starting to run my 11th half marathon (see all my runs here - http://www.athlinks.com/athletes/144283632). I still get nervous as the starting gun firing nears. I know that I followed my plan and put in many hours on the road and treadmill. I carefully applied myself to my strengthening routine and worked on areas I needed to improve. Yet I still have the jitters. Maybe because I'm aiming for a new PR for the distance.

Two years ago I ran this same race and PRd with 1:39:39. It rained the entire course and was challenging to maintain the average pace of 7:36/Mi but that is already history. This time around I have a modest goal of finishing in 1:38:00 so I will have to shave 0:00:07 off my average for every mile I run. After recently running the 10K at the Ann Arbor Marathon in 45:54 (averaging 7:24) I think that I should be ready for Sunday's half. But who knows, right? After all I am two years older, although my running partner tells me that I have not reached my peak yet.
